Trampoline Safety
Trampoline Safety
A trampoline isn't inherently a dangerous apparatus; it only becomes perilous when it is not properly cared for or misused. By doing routine maintenance on your trampoline, like checking the spring tension, making sure the trampoline is level and rotating your trampoline mats, you can ensure some safety. By having a few trampoline safety accessories and some ground rules, you can prevent accidents.
Trampoline Safety Equipment
These trampoline safety accessories won't impinge on trampoline fun if used correctly. A trampoline cage is a great backup to have in order to prevent falls from the trampoline mat to the ground. It also can help provide unsteady bouncers with some balance, should they lose it.
In terms of safety, there are no negatives to a trampoline cage. However, leaves and other yard smatterings can end up in the cage. In addition, jewelry and certain types of clothing can be caught up in the net, so warn trampoline users to remove these items along with their shoes. Trampoline cage assembly isn't difficult; often it is very self-explanatory, but the directions should still be followed closely.

In addition to a trampoline cage, you will probably also want to invest in some trampoline padding and a safety ladder. The safety ladders on the market are fairly standard sized; you will only have to really research the ladders if you have a custom trampoline. Having a safety ladder around can save many pinched fingers (on the springs) and lots of failed mounts onto the trampoline. Trampoline padding is essential to trampoline safety. The type of pads you buy depends on the shape and size of your trampoline, as well as your personal tastes since pads come in a variety of colors and can even be personalized. You may also want to research and compare prices on the Internet for the best deal, since there are a multitude of sites selling padding. Don't compromise price for safety though, make sure that the padding is a vinyl or other waterproof material with adequate cushion. Also make sure that the padding covers the frame and/or springs, depending on the level of trampoline safety you wish to attain.
Trampoline Safety Rules
Since having a trampoline is a great privilege, certain rules must follow. If your children understand these rules and the reasons why they exist, then you can be more relaxed and they will save trips to the emergency room for broken bones.
First, only one person should jump on the trampoline at a time for maximum trampoline safety. If other trampoline games are being played, it is okay for more than one person to be on the trampoline at once. However, when jumping, the combined forces of two bodies can sometimes catapult children in unforeseen, unfortunate directions.
Secondly, children should not jump when there isn't an adult around, not only for precautionary reasons, but in case something should happen.
Finally, children shouldn't be aloud to do flips or corkscrews on the trampoline. This will probably be the hardest rule to enforce, but also the most important. Most trampoline injuries are sustained by bad falls not off of but actually onto the trampoline mat itself. These injuries are often serious, such as broken necks.
