Trampoline Accidents

Sometimes trampoline accidents are just that: an accident. But taking this approach toward trampoline injuries is a lackadaisical and passive approach to owning a trampoline. With some certain safety precautions, no accidents will happen on your trampoline. Make sure that you have adequate trampoline padding with enough cushioning. Also make sure that one person is on the trampoline at one time, since the weight displacement can launch a person off of the trampoline and into an uncontrollable position. In addition, if you have a safety net or cage surrounding the trampoline, you can reduce your risk of trampoline related injury. Proper adult supervision at all times can also greatly reduce the risk of trampoline accidents or deaths. Though trampolines are a great way to get exercise, if there is a better way to get this exercise without injury, children should be encouraged to view the trampoline as a privilege. Set some ground rules in place and stick with them throughout usage of the trampoline. By finding safe trampoline games to play, trampoline users won’t get tired of doing the same old trampoline routines and won’t experiment with dangerous alternatives.

Trampoline Accidents Per Year

A website reports that “from 2000 to 2005 there were on average 88,563 emergency department visits per year for trampoline-related injuries for children up to 18, according to a study done at Brown Medical School in Providence, R.I.” this information is embedded within a personalized story about how a woman died while jumping on a trampoline with her two children. This story illustrates how some trampoline accidents end in death; however this is rare. Most trampoline accidents result in broken appendages, however if that broken bone is your spine or neck, this accident can be fatal. Over ninety percent of trampoline accidents occur at home. Six people died from trampoline accidents in the year 2000.

Trampoline Accident Videos

A quick search of the Internet will yield many trampoline accident videos. However, most of these are not like the driver’s education accident videos- that is to say that they are not meant to act as a deterrent. Like certain reality television shows, they often seem to encourage viewers to push the limits in the name of humor. A lot of these videos are of the slapstick variety, since near-broken bones and other physical humor are often found within the confines of these videos. If you are serious about trampoline safety, these videos will perhaps give you a guide about what not to do if you are mature, but if you are not mature, I suggest staying clear of looking at these videos.
