Rectangular Trampolines
The rectangular trampoline is often considered the safest design. This is part of the reason it is used in trampoline competitions when the tricks being performed have a high risk of becoming dangerous. The springs cross over each other to create a uniform bounce over the entire surface of the mat. If the jumper moves away from the middle there is little pressure to disturb their balance. Also, the bounce is softer and more controlled because springs in the center of the rails stretch more than the ones at the end. The result is a more vertical bounce.

Here are some examples of professional tricks that are safer to perform on rectangular trampolines instead of circular trampolines. The first is called the Barani. It is much like the somersault except you twist your body during the flip. The double somersault, which can be done forwards and backwards, entails two flips in the air and landing with your body vertical. The one and three is a flip in which you do one and three quarter front somersault and land on your back. The two and three is the same thing except with two and three quarter of a flip. Another type of jump is the Randy. In this trampoline move you do two and a half forward somersaults while you twist your body. These objects include the ball, ribbon, hoop, rope, and clubs. Rhythmic gymnastics contains elements of ballet, gymnastics and theatrical dance. All of this includes the manipulation of the particular object. One thing to note is that a club looks and acts very similar to a baton. Many may have seen baton twirlers in their local parades, they combine feats of tossing and twirling the baton as well as some basic tumbling type moves. A double back somersault while fully twisting your body during the second is called the back in full. One last example of a trick that is more suitable for the rectangular trampoline is the full, full. This trick is a double backwards somersault with a full twist during both.
Heavier and stronger materials are needed because the stress is on the center of the rails. This makes the cost higher than that of a traditional backyard trampoline. The advantage to the rectangular trampoline is that it lasts much longer. This is why circular trampolines are not used in competitions or in gyms where the equipment gets an extreme amount of use.
